On May 16, 2023 over 250 friends and family of local legend
Jane Baber White
gathered at Lynchburg's Academy Center of the Arts
for a celebration of her many contributions to our community.
After a reception and a toast, guests heard a proclamation of
Jane White Day from former mayor MaryJane Dolan,
a poem from Dr. T. J. Anderson III of Hollins University,
a video highlighting Jane's accomplishments,
a special song performed by her son Spence White,
remarks from Jane herself,
and a closing benediction from Rev. Roussell.
A volunteer committee led by Mr. Cham Light organized the evening.
Sponsorships and gifts from Jane's many friends covered all event expenses, making the night accessible to all who wished to honor Jane.
Proceeds from the event, at Jane's request, benefitted the Pierce Street Gateway Fund at the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation.
